January Facial Hair of the Month

Greetings,
A short post this week.  Last week was spent resting and blog writing so the week was quite uneventful.

Lori is back in the US fulfilling her parole requirements.  Just Kidding Lor - she is back in Indy for work this week where she will get her Bear fix.  We all miss our Chow/Lab dog Bear but I think she misses him the most.  This week will be a good for her.

Kalle had her first sleep over on Friday which was great.  That also means we didn't do much Saturday.  Sunday was spent running errands, including getting the missing insoles for Lori's boots.  The store was as mystified as I was as to how a pair of shoes were sold without insoles but they gave me a pair without question.  We also attended church on Sunday.  One difference I am finding between US and English churches (so far) is that US churches do more teaching.  The sermons here so far have been more like anecdotal stories while at home the sermons used biblical stories/lessons to teach the parishioners life lessons or provide encouragement during times of hardship.  The kids have confirmed this for the children's programs as well - they usually play some kind of game here while they received real life lessons at home.  Kind of strange.

A new blog category is the Carol Seppanen book I am reading now category.  I started reading Life and Fate by Vasily Grossman on the plane rides.  864 pages of uncensored life in Russia during WWII.  The book was finished in 1960 and confiscated by the KGB because of its realistic portrayal of Russian society.  It was smuggled out of the country and published in 1980 where it was hailed as a masterpiece.  A fascinating read so far.

And for this month's facial hair winner is....

The Chuck Norris - the savagely refined beard that growls thank you.

I am doing Chuck's somber face in the picture.  And his sad face, and his happy face, and ... you know what I mean if you have seen his shows or movies.  Probably the best thing that can be said about Chuck's acting is Ricky Bobby naming his kids Walker and Texas Ranger.  Great fighter yes, good actor no.

In tribute to the phenomenon that is Chuck I will be adding some Chuck Norris facts each posting this month.  This week's "facts" (facts are from various sources):

When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone he had 3 missed calls from Chuck Norris.

Chuck Norris can kill a living room.

When Chuck Norris was born the doctor was the only person who cried.  No one slaps Chuck Norris.

Thanks for listening,
Jay
